Encouraging intentional impact

Powerful ideas and intentional choices shape a better future. That’s why TEDxVictoria is  proudly a carbon-neutral event.

What is carbon neutrality?

Last year, we measured event-related emissions (energy, food, travel), totaling 9.61 tCO₂e, and offset them through the Great Bear Forest Carbon Project

This year, we are taking the same steps and, with support from Victoria-based Synergy Enterprises, we’ve woven sustainability into every part of our planning to guide future improvements for the second year running.

Your role matters

Here's how we can help reduce our collective impact:

Commuting to the event

Victoria is known for being one of the most walkable and bikeable cities in Canada. Please consider choosing low-impact travel such as walking, cycling, scootering, or taking public transit. Carpooling and ridesharing are other great alternatives to driving.

To get all the details on where to securely lock your bike or scooter, what bus route to take, and where to find parking, check out our How to get to TEDxVictoria guide.

Single-use items

We’re doing our best to minimize the impact of single-use items. Please help us reduce waste by bringing your own:

  • Reusable water bottle
  • Reusable coffee cup
  • Lanyard from last year’s TEDxVictoria

Event program

Programs are limited and made from recycled materials, please take only one. For a digital schedule, scan the QR code on your lanyard.

Stay hydrated

Water refill stations are available throughout the venue and are easily accessible. Please bring your own bottle!

Caffeine break

Visit Level Ground Coffee or Silk Road Tea on-site for fair-trade drinks. Bring a mug that reseals for inside the theatre.

Recycle right

Vendors are using eco-friendly packaging to simplify sorting, and we've introduced a lanyard recycling program this year.

Lunch options

You will have 75 minutes to eat and recharge. We’re partnering with local food trucks FreshCoast Health Food Bar, Dead Beetz, and Hazel’s Ice Cream to provide local, low-waste options at your fingertips, right in Centennial Square. If you want to venture a bit further, try Green Cuisine (a plant-based cafeteria), or Habit Coffee for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Did you know?

Choosing plant-based or low-carbon meals (like chicken) cuts food-related emissions, often the second-largest source!

Lanyard recycling program

On your way out, look for the marked box near the front door.
Drop off your lanyard, scan the QR code, and select which cause you’d like to support.

For every lanyard returned, we’ll reinvest the cost saved by donating $2 to one of our selected community partners.

Raises legal defense funds to support Indigenous Nations in their efforts to uphold rights and protect lands and waters.

Their work empowers communities to fight environmental injustice through the power of the courts, creating systemic change for people and the planet.

Through personalized education, early intervention, and family support, CHSCBC ensures every child can build confidence, independence, and meaningful connections.

Supports wellness, education, housing, food security and cultural connection for Indigenous individuals and families.

As an inclusive and Indigenous-led space, VNFC uplifts urban Indigenous communities while fostering understanding and reconciliation.
